Fleurri weurri (Fleur) was born and bred in Paris, France. Fleur's mother Juliette used to teach her daughter all sorts of weird stuff. Consequently, Fleur knew what a right angle was by the time she was 2. That year, her adopted baby brother Charles was flown over from Korea. He had spent almost 6 months on a plane! Because of this confusing information, Fleur refused to believe that babies came from their mother's tummy for a while. In her world, babies came on planes. The next winter, Fleur ordered a crane for Christmas. The crane that arrived on Christmas morning was the most beautiful crane ever. It was made from orange tinted wood, stood a proud 3 feet tall, and had a little wheel operated lift. At five years old, Fleur asked to join some drawing classes. By that time she'd made her peace with the baby-in-tummy business. Every Sunday morning, Fleur's dad used to take his two kids to do stuff. They went to the Zoo and the Science Museum a lot. But Dad also took Charles and Fleur to art and design museums on a regular basis. We think it goes a long way towards supporting the nurture vs. nature theories that both Charles and Fleur have since become designers. (Charles is now a 3d artist). During her school years, Fleur mostly liked maths. She used to do extra problems for fun at home. (Weird kid.) This is probably why Fleur toyed with the idea of going into engineering for a while. Eventually though, a choice had to be made between maths and art. The mind-making process was painful, but art finally won in 1991. Fleur had just spent a life enriching year in the states as an exchange student in Dewitt, Arkansas (2700 inhabitants). In 1996, after 4 year studying applied arts in Paris, (during which she spent way too much time playing cards and partying) Fleur took part in an exchange program with an English college for 6 weeks. The original 6 weeks were such a revelation, she joined the students at SCAT (Somerset College of Arts and Technology) and never looked back. After graduation, Fleur was selected to show her work at the 1999 London Alternative Fashion Week, held in Spitalfields market. And since the British capital is the hippest place to be on the planet,
she decided to stay there to live and design happily ever after. |
